SURF LEGENDS IN THE MAKING
TANE & ZEN WILLIS
Lifestream has been proud sponsors of surf champs Zen & Tane Wallis for several years. These Auckland boys come from a surf family with father Phil actively involved in coaching surfing and running, surfing contests, including being Event Director of the 2012 NZ Surfing Champs and for the Auckland Surfing Champs in 2008, 2009 and 2011.
Having taken Spirulina himself for many years while travelling and surfing many of the world's best and most remote surf breaks, he then put his lads onto it so they could get the extra energy they needed for these gruelling surf events.
Phil Wallis, “The big point we always make is that Spirulina and your other products are great supplements that don't cause digestive problems. During contests when you need energy between heats but don't want anything that is heavy to digest or full of sugar, Spirulina can't be beaten. It would be the perfect food for cyclists, and most endurance sports people. When Zen or Tane are faced with 4 heats in a day and possibly a final heat where they need to lift to their very best, having easily digestible spirulina tablets on hand has definitely been one of their secret weapons. It twas he total balance of protein, calcium and iron, without side effects, that attracted me to Spirulina over 25 years ago, especially when travelling through 3rd world countries where decent forms of nutrition were hard to source. Spirulina is the total nutrient package in an easy to carry and digestible form.”

Zen made the semi finals of both the Open Men's Shortboard and Longboard divisions which makes him currently the highest rated Auckland surfer in the country. He place 7th overall from NZ's 60 best shortboard surfers and was dominating NZ's number one surfer, Jay Quinn, for much of their quarter final.

Both boys were in the 2011 NZ Surfing Team that competed at the ISA World Surfing Games in Panama last July.
Zen just won the Rip Curl Pro Under 20 contest at Raglan and then raced north to win the Muriwai Boardriders 'King of the Bay' Open Men's contest.
Tane has been the highest rated Auckland surfer for the 2nd year and at 16 is about to be named in the NZ World Junior Team to compete in Peru in May. Of the last 4 Under 20 events in NZ, Tane and Zen have now won one each.
