What Else Can I Do to Help my Gut?

A happy intestinal tract will manage keep your digestion and elimination moving along nicely, but if you struggle with your gut health you’re not alone.

You might have gone for years happily eating all things gluten and dairy, and then started to notice a change in the way your body is responding to them.  Or maybe you’ve become accustomed to pooping every 3-7 days, passing wind perpetually, or feel bloated and tired after meals - because it’s been going on for so long it’s now your “norm”.  If you’re challenged with these and other problems like irregular or perpetual bowel emptying, or daily digestive discomfort, they’re indicators that your gut needs some extra TLC.

Digestive problems can be stressful, and sometimes it’s hard to know which started first - your stress or your tummy problems!  And, annoyingly, stomach disturbances caused by stressed can create more stress. Ongoing and intensive stress affects not just energy, mood, and happiness, but also your ability to digest and can cause you to miss out on all your nutrients.

Your gastrointestinal tract is a highly efficient machine, working day and night to make sure you get the best from your food while removing your waste, and it’s your diet and lifestyle that influence how well it works. • tiredness and low energy, even after meals
  • brain fog
  • poor focus and concentration
  • tightness or fullness at your waistline
  • Interrupted sleep

Depending on the cause of your discomfort, we’ve got some ideas that might help you to get a handle on things:

  • Invest your time in practices that help you think and feel differently about stress.
  • Take up meditation – try body scanning or mindfulness practices
  • Exercise – movement can help your intestines to move food through better
  • Find ways to eliminate or reduce your stress – can you ask for help?
  • Take up mindfulness breathing exercises
  • Avoid foods that you know don’t agree with you

Foods to avoid:

  • Soda and energy drinks
  • Sugary foods
  • Fast food and takeaways
  • Dairy
  • Gluten from wheat, barley, rye, and oat flour
  • Processed foods, including processed or preserved meats
  • Coffee and alcohol

Your gut is home to 300-500 different species of both good and bad bacteria, otherwise known as microbes, that play a big part in protecting you from unwanted bacteria, parasites, and infections.  They also play an important role in helping you digest, and rely on you to send wholesome food that’s rich in fibre and nutrients their way to keep your digestion happy and healthy.

Aloe Vera: Our Aloe Vera capsules soothe the lining of the stomach and intestines to support smooth and natural digestion. Aloe Vera is organically grown in mineral-rich volcanic soil and sustainably harvested by hand.
